Modelling Electric Vehicle Consumption

A Physical Approach for the i-MiEV

The use of electric vehicles raises the challenge of reliably calculating consumption. These consumption models can be based on measurement cycles, statistical models or physical models in practical application. Within this analysis, two physical approaches are chosen. In the first variant, the acting forces are considered and in the second, the required energies. It was validated afterwards with real-time measurements. These measurements are gathered by driving a Mitsubishi i-MiEV and tracking available CAN-Bus data, extended by GPS information. Using the available data, the comparisons show situations in which the model determines correct consumptions, as well as situations in which inaccurate consumptions are determined due to missing information.
